So your loft conversion start date is here, the first thing you will see is the majority of the materials will start to arrive. In most cases we will dismantle a small section of the roof to get the materials inside the premises. This will also be the access point and in turn minimises any disruption to your day to day living.
Now it will be time to start making the property structurally sound so your loft conversion is fully supported. This will entail structural beams of steel or timber being installed onto load bearing walls. New timber floor joists will be fitted, supported by the structural beams. Under floor insulation and sound barrier is fitted between the new joists.
The next stage will be awaiting a visit from a building control inspector who will check all the installed structural beams and floor joists are all to advised specifications and of course that they are correctly installed.
Plumbing will then be installed if you are also having an ensuite or converting your loft into a bathroom. Once complete the flooring will then be fitted.
Following on will be the installation of items like dormers, velux windows or any roof alterations that may be required. Insulation and electrical wiring will come shortly after. Please note building control will return at this point to check the window installation, insulation and any other amendments within this stage of the process.
At this point you will have seen things really come together, next on the agenda will be plasterboarding walls across all areas of the loft conversion.
Now all work is complete regarding the roof, flooring and walls it will now be time to start opening up the access ready for your new stairwell to be fitted.
Partitions are then erected and plaster boarded. We wait until this point to build stud partitioning and invite you to check you are happy with the positioning of the partition walls.
At this point this is where you will really start to see the difference, our team will now start plastering your new loft conversion and allowing this to dry.
All Electrical work will now be ready to be completed; for example - fitting switches, lights, sockets and smoke detectors. A certificate of installation to part P 17th edition will be completed.
Finally the plumbing will be installed i.e. new radiators and sanitary ware. All doors, skirting, architraves, handrails and spindles are fitted too.
Now it is time to make it look pretty with paintwork, carpets, tiling etc... this can be handled by ourselves if required. (This would be discussed at the initial appointment and quoted accordingly).
